from Glitterhouse.com The Tearjerkers and Annyland were two former bands of a very special kind from this LA. songwriter (originally from Portland, Oregon) - easygoing boy-girl pop-rock with a fresh and sassy attitude, but in the end, without the wished-for breakthrough. Now she’s engaged in writing in the country, folk and roots style, as evidenced in “Little Black Dress.” This for sure is not a disadvantage. Her debut album under her own name is a well-done opus, with concept, character, style and class. It’s a perfect unit, from the pop-style cover and ‘60s artwork up to the intriguing texts and the last twang note. Her first success was when her more famous California colleague Grey Delisle covered her song “Twas Her Hunger Brought Me Down,” on her album ‘Homewrecker.’ Through Grey, she met the well known Californian impresario Marvin “Mandolin Man” Etzioni (Lone Justice, Peter Case, Williams Brothers, Toad The Wet Sprocket) who recorded two tracks with her, one of them the title song. More recordings came to be with drummer-engineer Kevin Jarvis (Steve Wynn, Lucinda Williams, Duane Jarvis), who needed a project to try out his new studio. That collaboration resulted in the “Other Stories.” Throughout the whole album, there is a certain feeling of desire towards the easy-going country folk of past times. The Mamas & Papas and Dusty Springfield are some of Anny Celsi’s favorites, as well as Amy Rigby, Aimee Mann, Eleni Mandell. It is very original idea that the CD comes with a little booklet which contains, for each song, a little short story, but the song lyrics are missing! Those novels, which were created during a long recovery from an injury, gave LBD a unique concept which has already been played live, with huge success; her actor friend Arye Gross (Minority Report) read the stories aloud, and Anny plus band played the music to the story – great theater!! The only cover song is “No Time Like Now” by Steve Barton, who played acoustic and electrical guitar on this album. Featuring Kirk Swan (ex-Dumptruck), Etzioni, Danny McGough, Phil Parlapiano, Robert Lloyd, Joey Peters (Grant Lee Buffalo), Sheldon Gomberg (Phil Cody, Ryan Adams), Randy Weeks (LonesomeStrangers). Anny Celsi is definitely unique -- in a most suspenseful interpretation of the word! Nun kümmert sie sich verschärft um Songwriting, bandelt mit Country, Folk und Roots an und begegnet uns vorzugsweise im "kleinen Schwarzen" – sicher nicht nachteilig das alles!! Other Stories'. Über dem gesamten Album liegt eine gewisse Sehnsucht nach dem unbeschwertem Country & Folk vergangener Zeiten – die Mamas & Papas und Dusty Springfield gehören genauso zu Anny Celsi's Lieblingen wie Amy Rigby, Eleni Mandell und Aimee Mann. Originellerweise gibt's zu den 12 eigenen Songs jeweils eine im Booklet abgedruckte Kurzgeschichte (die Songtexte fehlen dagegen!). Diese während einer langen Krankheit entstandenen Novellen verleihen 'Little Black Dress...' ein einzigartiges Konzept, das sogar schon – mit riesigem Erfolg – live nachgestellt wurde: Die befreundete Schauspielerin Arye Gross ('Minority Report') las eine Geschichte und Anny plus Band spielten dann das Stück dazu – großes Theater!! Einzige Covernummer ist 'No Time Like Now' von Steve Barton (Translator), der hier durchweg akustische und elektrische Gitarren spielt. Feat. Kirk Swan (ex-Dumptruck), Etzioni, Danny McGough, Phil Parlapiano, Robert Lloyd, Joey Peters (Grant Lee Buffalo), Sheldon Gomberg (Phil Cody, Ryan Adams), Randy Weeks (LonesomeStrangers) u.a.
